The Village of Sharon
Sharon was originally a very small community with a few homes fronting on Leslie St. In the 50″s the first subdivision type building took place on the streets of Morton, Farr and May, these were mostly small bungalows on 1/2 acre lot. Sharon remained this tiny community until into the 1980’s. There were no sewer facilities and so it was not attractive to subdivision developers who wanted to maximize lot coverage. In the 1980’s Fifthshire homes came along and built estate residential homes on septic systems, which required 1/2 to 3/4 acre lots. To make this worthwhile, they needed to be large homes with triple garages, appealing to the up scale buyer. There was another small infill area of a similar type of homes adjoining this development in the 1990’s and then Sharon sat dormant again.
Currently Sharon is a booming area of new homes being built on the west side of Leslie St all the way from Green Lane, through Sharon and up into Queensville. These homes will now be on smaller traditional lots as the sewers are being installed in conjunction with this development.
The once small rural area, surrounded by farms is changing, but still is encompassed by farm lands. It sits on the northern boundary of Newmarket, so services and shopping are plentiful.
